While You Were Out's Jason Cameron Shows Women's Home Expo™ How to Have Fun with Their Home Improvement Projects
Annual event coming to Minneapolis November 4-6, 2005

Jason Cameron, well known to millions of home improvement TV enthusiasts as the talented, fun-loving carpenter on TLC's While You Were Out, loves a challenge almost as much as he loves creating something with his hands. A master at completing big projects within the show's two-day deadline, Cameron is anxious to show Minnesotans how they too can take their own do-it-yourself projects from idea to reality.

Q: What brings you to the Twin Cities?
Cameron: I will be coming to Minneapolis for the 3rd annual Women's Home Expo™ where I'll show do some easy how-to demonstrations, sign autographs, tell some fun behind-the-scenes stories from the TV show and talk about my experiences as an actor.

Q: Where would people recognize you from?
Cameron: People would first know me as the fun-loving carpenter from TLC's home design and improvement show While You Were Out. They also may have seen me on TV in shows like Sex and the City, Guiding Light, and All My Children.

Q: What will you be doing at the Women's Home Expo™?
Cameron: I will show people some easy joining techniques that can be used for simple projects such as boxes. So, they'll learn about using a biscuit joiner, finger joining with a jigsaw, and nailing and gluing. I'll also bring along a video with outtakes from While You Were Out so I can talk about the show, and I'll sign autographs. I'll be joining other experts who will be conducting design and home improvement seminars. I hope to also have time to visit the hundreds of exhibits to see the latest in home improvement and interior design products and services here in Minnesota.

Q: Why do you look forward to coming to the Women's Home Expo™?
Cameron: I like to show people that the secret to having fun with a project is to take it step-by-step. First visualize what you want and then draw it, after that, you can plan how you will build it. Depending on your level of expertise, you may not want to make it too complicated. Or, you may want to start with a class offered by your local home center.

Q: Aren't many home improvement projects too difficult for homeowners?
Cameron: No! One of my reasons for coming to the Expo is to show Minnesotans that they too can take their own do-it-yourself projects from idea to reality. Most homeowners can't picture themselves tackling some of the projects we do on the show. But we get things done through team effort. Our homeowners actually participate a lot, and they soon realize that they can do much more than they ever thought they could. And there are lots of different moldings, such as crown and chair molding, that are relatively easy to install.

Q: What sort of interior design advice will you give Expo visitors?
Cameron: Sofa tables, window seats and even molding are fun and easy ways to add design and values to your home. Take the time to be creative! A lot of rooms are very plain. When potential buyers walk into a room and see a nice paint job with nice molding, it makes a big difference. Paint is one of the easiest and least expensive decorating tools available.

Q: What does your design and home improvement background include?
Cameron: In addition to While You Were Out, I am no stranger to the building industry. When I was young, I spent time hanging around my father's roofing jobs, and have held jobs doing everything from framing to concrete work. But I confess I'm happiest with a piece of wood in his hands. I love the challenge of taking something from a thought to drawing to reality. Carpentry is a passion of mine. There's tremendous satisfaction in knowing I built something people will get a lot of use out of!

Q: Where can people go to find out more information about the Expo?
Cameron: They can get free referrals to experts in several home improvement and design categories before coming to the expo by visiting www.101expos.com. That Web site also has pictures and descriptions of some of the items that will be featured at the show. They might also want to call the Expo hotline at 612-798-7256.
