Ladies: Spend an hour going from power tool paranoia to do-it-yourself diva with quick fall projects
TV's home improvement expert JoAnne (JoJo) Liebeler to teach a one-day audience participation class at the Women's Home Expo™

Have you ever wanted to know the difference between a saber saw and a circular saw but were too timid to ask? Now you can learn and have a few laughs too when TV home improvement expert JoAnne (JoJo) Liebeler conducts a one-hour Tool School for the Gals at the upcoming Women's Home Expo™ at the Minneapolis Convention Center.

You may even get to try sawing, drilling or sanding for yourself during this seminar, to be held Saturday at 11 a.m. Using a fun, improvisational, audience-participation format, JoJo will demonstrate the safe and proper usage on a variety of hand and power tools. Go from tool paranoia to tool empowerment in this lively presentation.

Liebeler says that some of these tools may be necessary to do a few of her favorite quick home fixes for fall:

Hardwood Floors - "Believe it or not, it's possible to revitalize your hardwood floors - in a matter of hours, and without breaking a sweat. Hardwood floors tend to lose their luster over time due to constant foot traffic and superficial scratches. However, there are easy-to-use products that can restore your floor's shine. For instance, Orange Glo makes an all-in-one floor refinishing kit that includes a cleaner, refinisher and mop applicator. You simply vacuum the floor, apply the cleaner and follow up with the refinisher. The result? A refreshed hardwood floors that looks brand new," says Liebeler.

Fireplace Facelift - "Tired of that brick surround on your fireplace? Tile over it! Maybe you use a warm-toned porcelain tile to emulate the look of stone. Maybe you go for some contemporary ceramic accented with sparkly glass tiles. You'll need to consider the pattern layout carefully and rent a tub saw to ensure clean cuts. And don't forget to include some bullnose tiles to give the edges a finished look."

Energy-saving Savvy - "The cost of natural gas is skyrocketing, so why not invest some effort in making your gas-fueled appliances as efficient as possible? Start with wrapping your water heater in a thermal jacket. It'll improve its insulation value. If you don't have a programmable thermostat, get one. Programmable thermostats automatically set back the temperature to energy-saving levels when you're out of the home and while you're sleeping. Honeywell makes one that's easy to program. Finally, double-check all your windows and doors for any air leaks. Apply caulk and weather-stripping as needed to keep Old Man Winter at bay."

Room divider - "If you have a long expanse of wall you'd like to visually break up, install a chair rail. This is simply a piece of wood trim, run horizontally, typically about 36" up from the floor. You can paint two coordinating- or contrasting colors above and below the rail. Or even wall paper one of the sections."

Old World Walls - "Hirshfield's carries a product developed by a local woman called Manda Mudd which creates Old World textured walls (or ceilings). It's a three-step product that includes a base coat of paint, and a second coat in the same color family with some texture to it. The final coat is also in the same color family and also has texture. The end result is a rich and textured look that emulates the look of an Italian villa or French chateau."

The third annual Women's Home Expo™, November 4-6, 2005, will draw thousands of women (and men) to the Minneapolis Convention Center to see how-to seminars conducted by nationally known home improvement celebrities and shop among the hundreds of participating exhibitors. Plus there are always lots of drawings and giveaways, as well as quality entertainment.

The show offers a number of great ideas for garage organization, landscape design, appliances, and other services that contribute to making your home more functional as well as more attractive.

In addition to Liebeler, this year's show also will feature special appearances by Jason Cameron, the hunky new carpenter on TLC's While You Were Out. Cameron will be at the show each day to conduct how-to demonstrations and sign autographs for fans. A native of Toledo, Ohio, Cameron is an outdoorsman and sportsman. He attended Northern Michigan University, and worked as a carpenter part-time during school. He also is certified as a personal trainer, specializing in strength and conditioning.

Biography - JoJo Liebeler
The current crop of television designers may know a thing or two about wallpaper, but television home improvement expert JoJo Liebeler knows what's behind that wallpaper. For 15 years, Liebeler has been showing viewers how to fix, manage, maintain and improve their homes on national television.

Recently, Liebeler wrapped production on an hour-long Travel Channel pilot that examines the ups and downs of building a vacation dream home. It's Liebeler's second foray with the Travel Channel. She served as Host and Executive Producer of a series entitled Passport to Design in 2002-03. Passport to Design features room makeovers inspired by homeowner's vacation memories, ranging from a Bali-inspired porch to a Venetian dining room. TV Guide gave high marks to the series for "..making a historical connection to design which is critical."

Passport to Design is Liebeler's second show that dabbles in design principles. She also hosted a series on HGTV called Room for Change from 1995 - 2001.

But Liebeler's enduring popularity has come from the hands-on, down-and-dirty home improvement shows she's hosted. Her Midwestern appeal, and ability to swing a hammer even earned her a spot in Men's Health magazine's Top Ten Most Strangely Sexy Women poll. She worked with Dean Johnson on PBS' long-running Hometime series, and moved on to host her own show on TLC called Home Savvy, which still airs on the Discovery Home Network. As one of the female pioneers in television home improvement, she has inspired millions to pick up a power saw and go to work.

Liebeler has built a following as a home improvement expert, but has a passion for comedy. While living in Los Angeles, she was the lone female sketch writer on a syndicated series called The Newz. She performed for years in improvisational comedy troupes in both Los Angeles and Minneapolis/St. Paul. She has also had roles in broadcast television sitcoms and feature films.

As a how-to and home improvement expert, she practices what she preaches. Liebeler and her husband are re-modeling the home they bought, and are doing a lot of the work themselves.
