This surgeon’s prescriptions always lead to smiles
Dr. Dale Anderson will reveal his formula for raising your happiness quotient at the 6th annual Seniors Expo™

Is it possible that acting happier can actually make you healthier? That’s the premise behind Dale Anderson, M.D.’s hilarious prescription for reverse aging (staying in his words “youth-full and age-less”). A family and emergency physician and surgeon for more than 45 years, Dr. Anderson is returning for two very special appearances at the 6th annual Seniors Expo™ to share his secrets for increasing what he calls your ‘happiness quotient’ and to teach people how to laugh for the health of it.

“Drawing from the tradition of the theater, we can create a new paradigm for health. This paradigm is based on the idea that we become what we do,” says Dr. Anderson, who specializes in helping older Americans learn to tap into their younger selves. “In other words, we can become more healthy by consciously modeling (acting like) healthy people. In addition, staging, scripting, costuming and acting the part of a happy, healthy person can stimulate our bodies to produce neuropeptides such as endorphins and other chemicals that bolster the immune system and promote well being.”

Dr. Anderson’s audience at the Seniors Expo™, to be held September 25-26 at Mystic Lake Casino Hotel, will learn how to J’ARM – his term for jogging with the arms. “We all know jogging is good exercise. J’ARMing is moving your arms to happy music. Those attending will each get a baton and learn how to conduct themselves well! They’ll learn to turn on the music that makes them happy and tune into their personal high notes. It’s more fun than you can shake a stick at!

“As a physician, I know that happy people are healthier people,” says Dr. Anderson. “They know how to self-medicate. How to act happy. How to dispense ‘good medicine’ from their 24-hour cellular pharmacy. How to self-prescribe using humor, laughter, fun and simple pleasures. They become INNERtainers. Their health benefits – dramatic.”

Before and after the presentation, which is sponsored by Ebenezer, participants will be encouraged to measure their Happiness Quotient using 10 statements.
1. I am happy
2. I am healthy
3. I am good and getting better
4. I am flexible and creative
5. I am in control
6. I am goal-driven
7. I am a contributor
8. I am positive
9. I am valued
10. I am fun and liked
Each statement will be scored on a scale of 0 (strongly disagree) to 10 (strongly agree). Scores of each of the 10 statements will then be added and the total will be the Happiness Quotient. “You never have to reveal your score to anyone,” says Dr. Anderson. “In fact, studies show that even if you lie to yourself in your responses it will lead to positive changes.”

For six consecutive years, the Seniors Expo™ has responded to the unique needs and desires of mature Americans. Each year, thousands attend the two-day event to hear valuable seminars and to explore aisle after aisle of exhibits featuring products and services geared specifically to them.

And it’s all here: from vacation clubs to pharmacy services, fashion shows to investment counselors. There’s also nonstop, lively entertainment. If that’s not enough to keep you entertained, this is the fourth year that local women from across Minnesota will gather at the expo to compete in the Ms. Minnesota Senior America Pageant.

Many people return year after year to see this exciting pageant, which celebrates women ages 60 and above, and involves a talent demonstration and evening gown competition as well as interviews with the judges. It’s lively fun as the ladies sing, dance, play musical instruments, recite their favorite poems, and describe their philosophy of life for the Seniors Expo™ audience. The winner goes on to compete in the national Ms. Senior America Pageant.

“There is always a variety of fun things to see and do at the show,” says Robin Kocina, president of Mid-America Events & Expos, producers of the event. “People often come for the entire day because they can’t fit it all into just a few hours. Plus, they can take time out to enjoy Mystic Lake Casino Hotel, then come back into the Seniors Expo™ just by showing us their Official Show Bag.”

Senior admission is $6 at the door or $3 with the ½ price coupon available on the Mid-America Events & Expos Web site: www.101expos.com. Plenty of free parking is available.
