Premiere of Sports & Recreation Expo for Women
signals another milestone in women’s athletics Experts to reveal the latest in workout gear, clothing, training,
sporting equipment and unique vacation ideas When the fitness revolution first began in the 1970s, who would have predicted that its greatest impact would be on the so-called ‘weaker’ sex? As Olivia Newton John sang about getting physical, women around the world discovered the multiple benefits of working out and engaging in other recreational activities once considered men’s domain. A generation or two later, women are participating in everything from triathlons to boxing. And now finally, there’s also an expo that caters to their interests. The new Sports & Recreation Expo for Women (www.101expos.com), to be held March 24-25 at the Minneapolis Convention Center, will feature hundreds of exhibitors showcasing the latest in sports, fitness and recreational gear and equipment, clothing and related accessories, plus nonstop seminars to help attendees stay at the top of their game. With industry experts and women sports participants, the show is intended to inspire women to achieve their goals, and find even more fun and challenges in their recreational activities. “Women are a very important segment of the fitness and recreation market,” says Robin Kocina, president of Mid-America Events & Expos which is producing the event. “You can’t pick up a mainstream women’s magazine without seeing a section on fitness. Even sporting goods stores, which once catered strictly to men, now have equipment and clothing suitable for women as well.” Kocina predicts that this annual event will become an instant favorite among women of nearly every age group. “My daughter enjoys sports. I’m into yoga and other types of fitness programs. And even my 70-something mother exercises several times a week! Now we will all have a place to go where we can discover the newest gear, the latest workout technology, new vacation spots where we can stay physically active, and meet some inspiring women who will help us set our own fitness and recreational goals.” For additional information and half price tickets, see www.101expos.com or call 612-798-7256. This year’s sponsors include the 2008 U.S. Women’s Open, KSTC Channel 5, KSTP Channel 45 and Stressfree Living. Mid-America Events & Expos, Inc. also produces the Body Mind Life Expo, the Seniors Expo, the Mid-America Remodeling & Design Expo, and the Seniors Spring Show.
